2 vol., 4to: 12 (of 21) issues (all complete except issue 7 of which pl. 1, 3 and 25 are missing, some foxing).
Contemp. marbled calf, gilt-orn. spines with raised bands, red edges with vellum bookmarks (tinted scratches on cracked boards).
Most important source on garden maps and views in the late 18th c., published in 21 issues (almost never found together) between 1776 and 1788 and illustrated with 496 etchings on folding or double pages, some with several subjects, showing garden details with monuments and ornaments from properties in France, Germany and England.
Contains the first 12 issues illustr. with 282 pl. of Versailles, Wurzburg, Retz, Sans-Souci, Kew, Marly, Schwetzingen, Windsor, etc. Issues 1 and 7 with engr. text printed recto verso at the end. Issue 5 consists of Chamber's work "Traité des édifices, meubles, habits, machines et ustensiles des Chinois : gravés sur les originaux [...]. Compris une description de leurs temples, maisons, jardins, etc". P., Le Rouge, 1776, 30 pp. and 22 pl. Issues 7 and 8 with plans and monuments of Prince Charles-Joseph de Ligne's property in Baudour. Issue 10 with the plan of Choisy-le-Roy in 2 sheets (can be gathered in 1).
