4to-size (c. 22,5 x 19,5 cm): [118] ff. (mod. pencil foliation), French, paper.
Richly gold-tooled and blind-st. morocco, covers with wide gilt ornamental border and large rectangular central blind-st. decoration, richly gilt spine with raised bands and morocco label, gilt inside border, marbled endpapers (sl. rubbed).
Report of a research mission to Germany, 1842-1843, by Jules de Saint-Genois (1813-1867), Ghent historian, university librarian and professor. The mission was made at the request of the Belgian archivist Louis-Prosper Gachard and focused on documents concerning the "États-Généraux" of the Southern Netherlands from Philip the Good until 1789. The diary offers an account of de Saint-Genois’ travels, meetings with colleagues, findings etc. in Cologne, Bonn, Koblenz, Mainz, Frankfurt, Heidelberg, Salzburg, Vienna, Prague and Hamburg.
Loosely inserted "Praeg", 4 loose bifolia (12 pp. text), Dutch, describing his visit to Prague (16 August 1842 ff.).
