Quarter green morocco, gilt flat spine with black leather title label, marbl. boards (neatly rebacked). Good copy.
Rare second edition (first 1826-1830) of one of the most beautiful color plate books on India, by Captain R.M. Grindlay (1786-1877). Ill. with chromolithogr. vignette on title and 36 chromolithogr. plates, being fine reproductions of the original hand-coloured aquatint plates, showing animated landscapes, temples and other buildings, and views of Bombay, Ellora, Golconda, Guzerat, etc. The author served with the East India Company's military service 1804-1820 and made a large number of sketches and drawings, recording the life and landscape of India.
