(1st 1718-1721) of this collection of biographies of some 550 Dutch and Flemish artists from 1466 to 1659 intended to be a sequel to the "Schilder-Boek" by Van Mander, by the Dutch art writer, painter, draughtsman and engraver A. Houbraken (1660-1719). Complete with 49 fine pl. engr. by Jacob Houbraken, Arnold's son (1698-1780), mostly portraits of artists, incl. front. and author's portrait. Woodcut ornaments on titles. Titles in red and black.
