Work (1st 1750) dedicated to Maurice de Saxe (1696-1750), illustrious soldier and military commander, born the illegitimate son of Augustus II the Strong, king of Poland. After serving in the Army of the Holy Roman Empire and the Imperial Army, he entered in French service where he became the Marshal General. He is most known for his decisive victory at the Battle of Fontenoy (1745) in the War of the Austrian Succession. Ill. with a front. engr. by Aveline and 2 fold. maps of the battles of Lawfeldt and Fontenoy.
