Description du lot

Etching and engraving, 28,2 x 20,6 cm, laid paper, signed "Peint et Gravé a l'eauforte par Wattaux et / retouché au burin par Simonneau l'ainé." (trimmed inside platemark at left, top, right, lower margin part. cut, few sm. light stains).

Mounted on passe-partout at upper edge. Good impression.

After the painting in Waddesdon Manor, this is one of the few prints that was also etched by Antoine Watteau (1684-1721) himself. The plate was subsequently retouched with the burin by Charles Simonneau (1645-1728). Lower margin partially cut so unclear which state. On the verso a small sketch of a lady in red chalk.
