A soldier dreamily looking over the troops from a hilltop. Charlet (1792-1845) specialised in the depiction of French soldiers in his prints and drawings. His father lost his life serving in Napoleon's "Grande Armée", which stimulated him in his endeavour to represent the melancholic and sometimes gruesome aftermath of the Napoleonic wars, often with satirical undertones.
