Set of preliminary sketches (charcoal or pencil) for his series of paintings inspired on "The Divine Comedy" by Dante Alighieri. All drawings monogrammed, dated and titled and an excerpt in French of Dante's poem in the lower margin. Jamar (Liège/Brussels 1870-1946) was a Belgian painter of landscapes, cityscapes, interiors and marines. His encounters with doctor Louis de Winter, art lover and patron, from 1929 onwards had a profound influence on him. From then on he also became interested in literary and metaphysical themes such as the history of Tijl Uylenspiegel and scenes from Dantes' Divina Comedia.
