Folio: [10, incl. title & portr.]-1286-[37] pp. (spotting & browning, tear underlaid at f. 5T5).
Old marbled sheep (sl. rubbed, some sm. tears), gilt spine with 6 raised bands (def. at head, tail & title label, joints rubbed). Good copy.
First edition of this historical chronicle from the death of Charlemagne until 1620 by Adriaan van Meerbeeck, teacher in Bornem and Aalst (Antwerp 1563-post 1627). Engr. ill.: allegorical title by Willem de Haen after Petrus de Jode, author's portrait and 19 full-page portrait medallions of Emperor Charles, Philip II, Margaret of Austria, Alexander Farnese, Albert and Isabella, etc., in large Renaissance style cartouches. Enriched with 1 extra full-page portrait of Charles Bonaventure de Longueval, signed P. de Jode (1623), not in the list of plates. Printed in 2 col.
