Description du lot
Folio: 48 pl. (front. incl.), interleaved with wove paper ff. handwritten in French, ink and pencil (without text, marg. foxing, some water stains, pin-hole on front., sl. soiled and reinforced with paper on back, many pencil underlining and annotations).
Mod. three-quarter black cloth (working copy, disbound, spine missing, boards loosening).
Complete set of plates (front. included), engraved by C. Weigel, from a chronological summary of universal history since the creation of the world. The work is shaped on mnemotechnic principles, as a list of historical facts classified by millennia, by centuries and finally by decades. "In 1700, poorer-quality copies were made and published on their own, with no explanatory text, under the title "Die Welt in einer Nuss" ("The world in a nutshell")" (Meumann, p. 161). Our copy was completely interleaved in the 19th c. by Fl. Gevers, who wrote detailed translations and/or explanations of each picture, in French.
