4to: [40]-960 [= 980]-[9] pp. (front flyleaf gone, last bl. p. used as pastedown, sm. tear in f. 2A3).

Contemp. mottled sheep (sl. used, some def.), gilt spine with 4 raised bands. Good copy.

Very rare early "biography" of St Gertrude of Nivelles (Landen 626-659 Nivelles). Engr. ill.: title-page showing i.a. her parents Pepin of Landen and Iduberga of Nivelles, portrait of J.G. à Ryckel (1581-1642) by Jan vanden Sande dated 1636, 11 full-page pl. (incl. 3 repeats) showing i.a. St Gertrude, St Amandus, St Begga and the chalice of St Gertrude, and 12 pl. in text showing i.a. old Germanic gods (1 pl. signed Ph. de Mallery & J. van Mechelen). Bound after p. [144] are 16 unpaginated pp. with running title "Vitae S. Gertrudis" (not mentioned in STCV, from another book?), containing a large woodcut (Gertrude on her deathbed) and an engr. pl.
