Copperplate, 29,3 x 43,9 cm, signed at bottom right: "de Pally sculp", address at bottom centre: "A Paris chez Jacques Chereau rue St. Jacques au dessus de la Fontaine St. Severin aux 2 Colonnes No 257", numbered 34 at top left, French title in upper margin, French text in lower margin (some light oxidation).
Copperplate for the optica print of the new gallery of the Vatican Library decorated with Etruscan vases, commissioned by Pope Clement XII (1652-1740). Engraved by a member of the de Poilly family. 2nd ed. of the 3rd print with this subject according to Ruysschaert's article. The lot includes a later, damaged impression of the plate and an overprint of Ruysschaert's article.
