The Barber's shop is a satirical engraving after Adriaen Van de Venne, by Dancker Danckerts (1634 - 1666), a well known Dutch engraver and publisher. He belonged to a large Amsterdam family of engravers, cartographers, print-sellers and publishers and is known for both his etchings of paintings, maps and his publications. His works are widely collected and feature in numerous museum, library and archive collections around the world. Title in cartouche in centre top. On 2 banderols on the back wall "Wy door List" and "Wy om 't Gelt". Near the standing figures left "Wy met gewelt". In margin underneath key A-K to the figures in the print. Under each figure name a 2-line satirical verse. Ref. Hollstein XXXV:16:8 (Van de Venne).
