Folio: [18]-558 (= 556)-[17-1 bl.] pp. (occ. min. soiling, tiny wormtrack in blank bottom margin in first +/- 200 pp. repaired, some soiling at first 2 ff., sm. hole in *1 underlaid, lacking *3r: engr. pl. with allegoric. ill. of art & sciences, *3v: coat-of-arms of Guicciardini).
19th-c. binding by the Swedish bookbinder Gustaf Hedberg: dark red quarter leather, blindst. & gilt spine on 5 raised bands, giltruling on covers, marbl. paper on covers, marbl. edges, marbl. endpapers (very sl. rubbed, sm. scratches on covers). Very good copy.
Second Italian and the most sought after ed. (1st Silvius 1567) of the famous description of the Low Countries, updated by the author with the recent drastic changes in the region's history. Beautifully illustrated with engraved plates: elaborate frontisp. (allegorical representation of the Netherlands with the 3 rivers), title, coats-of-arms of the 17 Provinces (without coat-of-arms of Philip II pasted on), 55 plates including 1 general map of the Netherlands and 54 pls representing maps of each province and city plans and views of the towns. 2 plates (Tournai and Cambrai) are not yet present in this ed.
