Marbled paper cardboard, flat spine (rubbed). Very good inside condition.
Rare first edition of a dissertation and study of an urn with ornaments in gold and damascening made by a certain "Paulus Ageminus". Incl. in the ornamentation, a world map and country maps, reproduced on 3 fold. plates at the end. The scholar and abbot D. Francesconi (1761-1835) was the preceptor of Giovanni Barbarigo in Rome, son of Pietro Pesao, and ambassador of the Republic of Venice. He was Director of the library of the University of Padova, professor of History, Diplomacy and Roman Law, and in 1808 was named Rector of the University. He was a member of the Accademia of Padua and Accademia dell'Arcadia in Rome.

Prov. Alessandro Maggiori who bought it in Rome in 1808. A. Maggiori (1764-1834), was one of the most important 19th-c. collectors of old drawings and great masters (ms. entries, pagination, occ. marginalia and note on lower flyleaf).
