5 vol., 8vo (sl. browned, foxing on the 1st and last ff., some spotting, sm. marg. hole on the 1st pl.).

Contemp. brown calf, gilt triple fillet, gilt orn. spine with raised bands, green leather labels, gilt inner dent., a.e.g. (some rubbing, faded spines, upper turn-in cracked on vol. 2).

New edition (1st ed.: 1879-1884?). Ill. by F.E. Hulme with 200 chromolith. pl., and as much orn. initials and tailpieces in black. S. Hibberd (1825-1890) was one of the most popular and successful gardening writers of the Victorian era. Frederic Edward Hulme (1841-1909) was a teacher and amateur botanist mostly known for his publication "Familiar wild flowers".
