Description du lot

Folio: [40]-798 [= 802]-[2] pp. (sl. browning, some soiling, light water stains throughout, 1st and last ff. skilfully reinforced).

17th-c. vellum, flat spine (spine skilfully repaired, some scratches on covers, modern flyleaves).

Rare only edition of this collection of early church texts against any form of heresy. Contains works of the 4th and 5th centuries by i.a. Lactantius, Proclus of Athens, Pope Gelasius I, etc., an anti-arian of the 8th and the 15th-c. "De via salutis humanae" by Gennadios Scholarios, dialogue between Sultan Mahomet II and the author, Patriarch of Constantinople (printed individually in Vienna in 1530 and in Paris in 1533). Accurate edition by Johannes Herold (1514-1567) with i.a. short biographies of the authors, partly in Greek and Latin. Large woodcut mark on last f.
