Very rare commentary on the New Testament, by the German Lutheran theologian J. Habermann (or J. Avenarius, 1516-1590). Nicely illustrated with 83 large woodcuts showing scenes from the life of Christ, with mark "4+" in the image, and also monogrammed "CE" with cutter's knife underneath; date "1561" in 1 image. According to Nagler, the images are cut by an unknown master of the school of Cranach the Younger, and first appeared in Luther's "Husz-postilla" (Wittenberg, Heirs Rhau for Selfisch, 1563). Woodcut mark on title. Title in red and black.
