Description du lot
2 vol., 8vo: [8]-607-[9], [8]-342-[10] pp. (some browning and dampstaining, stain on margin of title 2nd vol.).
Contemp. calf, gilt coat of arms within triple ruled borders, gilt orn. spines with 5 raised bands, red leather title labels, marbled endpapers (joints starting to split, def. at head of 2nd vol., corners rubbed, paper label partly removed on front board of 1st vol.).
Later edition (1st 1681) dedicated to the Dauphin, son of Louis XIV, of which Bossuet (1627-1704) was the professor of history from 1670-1679. Bossuet's discourse is divided into three parts: the creation of the world, the advent of Christianity, and the conquest of the West by the Catholic Church.
