Contemp. full red morocco with long grains, covers ruled by a triple gilt fillet, gilt orn. spine with raised bands, gilt fillets on edges, gilt inside dentelle (general wear heavier on corners, edges and spine, small tear on the lower board).

Rare issue "de luxe" with large margins (28 x 22,5 cm) of the first edition of this reference study on insects with a Latin/German explicative text and 134 nice and accurate hand-coloured plates printed on both sides (except plates XIII, CXXXII). With the precision of the descriptions and plates, Schaeffer's work on entomology holds an honorable place in every naturalist's library.
