Sketches of antique armor and three female figures.

Drawing, pen and brown ink, 19 x 24,3 cm, thin laid paper, signed in brown ink at left side of cuirass "Polidoro" (several traces of ink corrosion with lacunae in paper, some sm. stains).

Under passe-partout and double-sided frame (not studied outside frame).

A detailed study of an ancient cuirass with a masqueron and griffons on the breastplate. On verso stylised and sculptural studies of 3 female figures. The classical subject matter, the straight parallel hatching style and typology of the combined study sheet are all reminiscent of Polidoro da Caravaggio's idiosyncratic sketch sheets. The attribution to Caravaggio is supported by an older ms. caption.
