Mod. cloth binding, decorative endpapers. Good copy.
Part of the famous folio travel series by vander Aa, complete in itself (from. vol. II). Engr. ill.: mark on title, 1 pl. outside collation and 9 large pl. in text, showing elephants working and fighting, the catching and domestication of wild elephants, the white elephants of the king of Pegu, industry, religious and burial ceremonies, scenes in the King's court. Gasparo Balbi (1550-1623) was a Venetian jeweller and merchant accompanying Portuguese naval and merchant vessels on their travels alongside the Indian and South Asian coasts. He visited o.a. Goa, Elephanta Caves near Mumbai, Nagapattinam, Pegu, Cochin. Text in Gothic and roman type, in 2 col.
