Contemp. blind-stamped pigskin over wood, spine with 4 raised bands, metal clasps and catches (soiled, 1 clasp gone). Good copy.
2nd ed. of an influential philosophical textbook by the French theologian Eustache Asseline (Eustache de Saint-Paul, 1573-1640). It is a survey of late Scholastic Aristotelian doctrine, favoured and used by Descartes himself, who described it as the best book of its kind ever made. In 1648 it was even published in Cambridge. Engr. mark on title, 4 engr. and 1 woodcut ill. Woodcut mark on part titles.
