Most (104) showing views, military exercises and life in the "Polygoon van Brasschaat", military training area in the province of Antwerp, other in the Beverloo Camp ("Bourg-Léopold", 38). The rest of the lot is composed of postcards showing the "Joyeuse entrée" of Albert I in Brussels, "Caserne d'artillerie St-Martin" in Leuven, satirical images, etc. These postcards are all addressed to a member of the family Dungelhoeff, in Antwerp (Berchem) or Brussels, which counted many military men, and were mainly exchanged between the father Gustave Dominique Dungelhoeff, his son Gaston and his daughters Louise and Jeanne; some postcards are also written to Henri or Hendrik, brother of Gustave. The Captain Gustave Dungelhoeff (1867-1914), commander of several Artillery regiments, was an officer in WWI. He took part in the battles around Aarschot and Antwerp and was killed in a heavy artillery bombardment at Wezemaal on September 12, 1914, when his battery took up position along the road to Leuven. In 1927, the artillery barrack of Lier was named after him. Gustave and his son Gaston both stayed in the "Polygoon", some of the postcards were sent during their stay.
