Old vellum, flat spine with gilt label (sl. rubbed at front fore-edge margin). Good copy.
Rare 2nd ed. (1st Milan 1613) of a military textbook for officers. Della Croce was an Italian professional soldier and army commander in the Low Countries under Farnese. His book is based on personal experience and he offers private reflections on life and society as well. He is also one of the first to deal with the medical treatment of horses. The dedicatee, Jacob Count Bronchorst and Batenberg, had served in the army of Ferdinand II. Engr. coat of arms of dedicatee on title. 15 numbered engravings (incl. 10 full-page). Printed in italics.
