Large folio: [6] ff., 253 pp.; 1 engr. title on double p. and 58 pl. (bad state: age-toned, worn, worm holes, stains, cuttings and tears - mostly clumsily repaired with hard brown paper, marginal loss of paper).

Late 19th-c. three-quarter red morocco, gold-tooled spine with bands (worn, scratched, bumped, upper board disbound, etc.).

Fourth edition (1st 1625) of Pluvinel's famous work on horse riding with the title "L'instruction du Roy", revised and augmented by René de Menou, friend and pupil of Pluvinel. Text in 2 columns French-German, the German text in italics, the French in ordinary font. The German translation of this edition is different from that of 1628, 1640 and 1670; the architectural decoration around the plates is not the same as that of 1625 but the French text is similar. Illustrated with 4 engr. in the prelims (engr. title on double page, portraits of Louis XIII, Roger de Bellegarde and Pluvinel) and 58 engr. (53 double-page pl. and 5 from an other ed., smaller - 30 x 21 cm, glued on paper).
