Plantin Press edition of the "Panegyrici Veteres" edited by the Flemish theologist and Hellenist Jan Lievens (Livineus, Dendermonde 1546-1599). The "Panegyrici" is a collection of speeches, based on new manuscript material and with still useful comments. Among the speeches are Pliny the Younger's on Trajan and Latinius Drepanus Pacatus' on Theodosius. Brunet lists several early editions of this work and singles out this particular edition as praiseworthy for the correctness of the text and for Lievens' excellent scholarly notes. Woodcut device on title.
