Red morocco by L. Guétant, gilt ruled covers, gilt titled flat spine with double fillet at head and tail, gilt inside dentelle (part. and sl. rubbed).
First edition of this work on the first flights undertaken in Lyon: the 1st, being the third aerial flight in history, made by Jean-François Pilâtre de Rozier on 19 January 1784 in the balloon "Le Flesselles" with 6 other passengers including Joseph Montgolfier, and the flight on 4 June 1784 in the balloon "La Gustave", named in honour of the Swedish King Gustave III, piloted by Fleurant with on board Élisabeth Tible, one of the first female aeronauts. Contains also other pieces such as the speech given by J. Montgolfier to the "Académie des Sciences", songs (on aeronauts, balloons, etc), an account of the festivities for the centenary of the first public flight by the brothers Montgolfier at Annonay, etc. Illustrated with 2 heliogravures fig. the flight of Pilâtre and a portrait of J. Montgolfier. Issued to 205 numb. copies, one of the 5 on Hollande paper (n. 2).
