Description du lot
Oil on canvas, 75 x 63 cm, signed in red above the left shoulder "Joshua Reynolds" (sm. scratch at lower left with some paint loss).
In a rich gilt and orn. frame.
Exquisite portrait of an unidentified aristocratic man, in the "Grand style" and technique of the portraits made by Sir Joshua Reynolds (1723-1792). Reynold is one of the most celebrated British painters from the Georgian Era. He was the founder and first president of the Royal Academy of Arts and is considered one of the best portait painters that Britain has to offer. In 1784 he attained the office of Principal Painter in Ordinary to King George III, during which time he painted the portraits of many members of the British Royal Household and the high aristocracy.
