2 parts in 1 vol., folio: [8 incl. front.]-104-[2], 420-[4] pp.; 47 pl. (sm. tears, esp. on pl. p. 195/Nieuport, upper corner pl. "Spaensche vloot" repaired).
Contemp. blindstamped vellum, central ornaments on covers, spine with 5 raised bands (hinges weak and broken, joints part. split in lower part).
Rare 1st edition, anonymously published (reprinted 1662), of these early biographies of William and Maurice of Orange-Nassau, largely an adaptation of J.J. Orlers "Nassauschen Lauren-crans". With a title by J. van Meurs, a full-page portrait of Maurice by Broer Jansen after C. van Queboren, all 45 engr. ill. mentioned in the index, incl. a double-page map of the Low Countries and views of Nova Zembla, Gran Canaria, Bantam, Gibraltar, S. Salvador, Ostend and Nieuwpoort, and 1 additional pl. of Mauritius on p. 123 not mentioned in the index. Also with a full-page coat of arms in the text.
