After graduating in Law and Divinity in Siena, Nausea (ca. 1496-1552) served as secretary for Cardinal Lorenzo Campeggio at a.o. the Diet of Nuremberg and the convention of Ratisbon. He worked for the reunion of Lutherans with the Catholics and asked Rome, together with the prelates, to permit the clergy to marry and the laity to use communion cup.
