5 parts in 1 vol., sm. folio: 188 pl.
Contemp. sheep (some tears, corners bumped), spine with 4 raised bands (front joint split but firm, head & tail def.). Inside very good, well-preserved copy.
First small folio edition of the famous baroque pictorial Bible of J.U. Krauss (1655-1719), with all plates re-engraved on a smaller scale than the orig. folio ed. of 1698. Complete with 188 numbered engraved plates, consisting of 7 Gothic calligraphed titles (2 general and 5 part titles), 9 full-page illustrations (of which 5 architectural frontispieces for each part) and 172 splendid full-page double illustrations, each with a biblical scene, one or more historical scenes inside a nicely decorated border and a biblical caption. Pl. 54 and 133 show sm. maps of the Holy Land and Arabia, and a plan of Jerusalem. The implementation in a smaller format was carried out by Johanna Sibylla Küsel - the spouse of Krauss - and her sister Maria Philippina Küsel.
