Publisher's gilt decorated green binding, large pictoral black and gilt illustration on front cover, decorated gilt ornaments on grey endpapers, gilt edges. Nicely preserved binding, as new.
Epic poem by Weber (1813-1894) which describes the final battle between Franconia and Saxony, between blossoming Christianity and sinking paganism in the Nethegau. Since the main bearers of the Christian idea are the monks, the poet named his work "Dreizehnlinden" after the fictitious monastery. Abundantly illustrated in b/w by Rickelt (1857-1944), a German painter and illustrator, with large or small in-text, headpieces and vignettes; and 12 plates reproducing compositions in photogravure. The publisher's binding can also be found with red cloth.
