Some 52 pencil & ink drawings and watercolours of various sizes (smallest 6,5 x 12 cm, largest 20,5 x 28,5 cm); most signed and titled. Good collection.
Mounted in an album, obl. folio (loose, spine and lower cover preserved, t.-p. loose, frayed edges), empty pages at end. Good collection.
Collection of (washed) drawings and watercolours, made after nature by Benjamin Mary (1792-1846), diplomat, traveller and artist. During his stay as a diplomat in Brasil, he showed his skill in drawing by making remarkable sketches of the country. Some of his drawings were lithographed later on. Attractive drawings i.a. washed views of Netherlands (La Haye, Amsterdam), France (Vaucluse, Nîmes, Pont du Gard, Avignon, Montpellier, Thorèze sur le Doubs, Besançon), Allemagne (Trier, Nürnberg, Francfurt, Cologne), England (Abrow, Margate, Dunbar Castle), Portugal/Spain (Cintra, Tenerife, etc.). Some with notes by the artist concerning colours, etc.
