One of the two issues of this corrected and enlarged edition (first 1657) of this apothecary manual for students by Jan Bisschop (1590-1664) who worked in Bruges as a pharmacist before he moved to Ghent in 1613 to join the Jesuit order. Ill. with an engr. title showing the interior of a pharmacy and woodcuts in text showing distilling equipment. The manual owed its success to its extremely practical approach, including its vast collection of medical recipes, many involving distillation, and its information on the preparation, the flavouring, colouring of the medication, ingredients, etc. Woodcut arms on title. At the end, as it should be, "Examen ofte Kort ondersoeck" together with "Van de uytkiesinghe der drooghen", but here, as an exception, to be found twice. Printed in Gothic and roman type.
