First edition of the translation by Regine Adler (1st French ed. 1897) with an intricate Art Nouveau book design by Alfons Mucha (1860-1939) who designed the title-page, 132 colour lithographs (4 full-page and 128 pages with large compositions and frames around the text, several in gold or silver), 3 vignettes and 7 decorative borders. The book opens with an embossed title (made by Alexander Charpentier) and ends with an embossed coat of arms. Edition limited to 800 copies on vellum, unnumb. copy.
