Rare first French translation. The important preface, dated September 15, 1860 (addressed to the art historian Frédéric Villot), is a manifesto, an autobiography and a history of the opera. Followed by the French texts of 4 of Wagner's operas: Le Vaisseau Fantôme (originally Der fliegende Holländer), Tannhäuser, Lohengrin, and Tristan et Iseult.
