Description du lot
Drawings, pencil with watercolour, 22 x 18,7 cm, vellum paper, signed in pencil at lower right corner (several small dampstains affecting the image).
Two illustrations for the fairy tale "The Emperor's new clothes" previously attributed and similar to the French artist Jean-Jacques Waltz (1873-1951), better known as "Oncle Hansi". He was a staunch pro-French activist, and is famous for his quaint drawings, some of which contain harsh critiques of the Germans of the time. He was also a French hero of both the First and the Second World Wars. He illustrated various children books. Hansi is now considered archetypal of Alsace folklore. His original books, each with only a few thousand copies published, are highly valued by collectors.
