Saint Jerome in the woods.

Etching, 46,2 x 33 cm, laid paper with watermark, signed at lower margin "Titianus Vecellius, Cad, Invent & Pinxit" (brown damp stain at lower left, sm. horiz. tear at left central edge).

Saint Jerome is depicted as a hermit, holding a rock. After a painting of Titian which was in Sta Maria Nuova in Venice, and can now be admired in the Accademia di Brera in Milan. The print was part of a series (53 pl.) of works by the talented Brussels printmaker Lefebvre (1642-1682) after renowned paintings by Titian and Veronese. First state (of 4).
