1. A ruin on the left side and some trees. 2. A rotunda or round temple on a hill, looking out over a river bed. Andrea Locatelli (1695-1741) was one of the major figures in the development of the 18th-century Italian landscape tradition. His paintings were in high demand from Italian nobility and the urban upper class. Locatelli specialised in pre-romantic landscapes set in Latium, often imaginary compositions which included ruins or classical buildings. Fine examples of his early style, in which human activity was reduced to a minimum.
