Description du lot
Etching, 28,7 x 24,4 cm, laid paper, signed in plate "A.W.f" (trimmed just outside the borderline, sl. toned, some foxing).
Under passe-partout.
One of the largest etchings by the famous landscape artist Anthonie Waterloo (1610-1663), who was among the first artists to have established a reputation almost entirely based upon his work as a draughtsman and printmaker. Waterloo also produced many etchings which increased his popularity and extended his influence into the next century. Many of Waterloo's larger etchings (some, like this one, almost the size of his paintings) are careful in their depiction of the smallest, individual detail. From a series of "Six large upright landscapes with scenes from Ovid's Metamorphoses". A very good impression of the 1st state (of 2).
