Contemp. mottled calf (corners sl. def. and restored), gilt orn. spines with 6 raised bands, gilt inside dentelles, marbled endpapers, marbled edges. Incomplete, but nice copy.

Later and one of the most interesting editions translated into French by Nicholas Du Bois following the 1715 English edition by Inigo Jones and Giacomo Leoni of "I quattro libri" (first Italian ed. 1570, first French ed. 1650) by the Venetian Renaissance architect Palladio (1508-1580). Ill. with a front., 12 in-text engr. and 199 (of 203) pl. The work exercised an almost unrivalled influence on European architecture for centuries and formed the basis of the so-called "Palladian" style adopted by Inigo Jones, Christopher Wren and other English architects. The work deals with the 5 orders of architecture, the construction of private or public houses, temples, stairs, roads, bridges, squares, etc., with plans and decorations of Greek and Roman houses.
