Lot description

8vo: [4]-147-[1] pp. (some browning, bottom part of title cut off, some marg. waterstaining on upper margin of first quire).

Contemp. vellum (upper corner def.), flat spine (sm. lack of vellum).

Fourth ed. (first 1618) by the French mathematician D. Henrion (d. 1632). Ill. with one double-page engr. pl. showing the sector and several woodcuts in-text. Despite the title, the instrument described in modern terminology is correctly called the sector credited to Galilei though claimed by Henrion as an invention of his own. The instrument was primarily used for surveying.
