Lot description

8vo: [228] ff. (minor toning or marginal dampstaining, wormhole in blank margin of quires A-B, R-Y).

Contemp. panel-stamped gold-tooled calf, dated "ANNO | 1566" (front cover), covers with gilt roll-stamps and gilt central panel (upper cover: Annunciation with subscription "Ecce conci[pies] et paries filium", Judges 13:7; lower cover: Nativity with subscription "Puer nat[us] [est] et fili[us] dat[us] [est] nobis", Isaiah 9:6), gilt spine with 4 raised bands, gilt gauffered edges (sl. rubbed and loosening, front joint split, leather parts of spine loosening, clasps and catches gone). Good copy.

Rare devotional treatise (1st: 1542) by the Leuven Carthusian Floris van Haarlem, edited by the Franciscan Claes Zegers. Large woodcut mark at the end. Title printed in red and black within border of type ornaments. Printed in gothic type.
