Detailed account of an important scientific, geographical and ethnographic expedition to Madagascar carried out in 1889-1890 by Louis Catat (1859-1933), naval officer, doctor and French explorer. Charged with a scientific mission by the Ministry of Public Instruction, he made this trip in order to complete the study conducted by Mr. A. Grandidier (famous traveller and great naturalist) who travelled this island for 5 years, around 1867. With about 165 b/w in-text ill., of which some full-page, 1 double-page coloured map of Madagascar and a front. by Rousseau after a drawing of Marius Perret.
