Second edition (1st Paris, [1759]) of this curious work on chimneys. Descriptions of a number of experiments and theories on wind and ventilation, etc., for which the French physicist and technician Genneté (1706-1782), Emperor Francis I's first physicist, carried out numerous experiments and research, including studying the mechanism of air circulation in the coal mines of the Liège region. Complete with 13 engr. folding pl. by the Liège engraver Joseph Dreppe (1737-1810) depicting technical drawings of chimneys. In fine, bookseller's list of F.J. Desoer (2 pp.).
