Contemp. mottled calf (wormholes on covers, corners sl. bumped and rubbed), gilt orn. spines with 5 raised bands (heads and tails def., wormholes on spines, lower joint 2nd vol. splitting), marbled endpapers.
First edition by the French physicist Bertholon (1741-1800). Ill. with 6 fold. engr. pl. Interesting work on natural phenomena connected with electricity including earthquakes, volcanoes, hail and waterspouts. Bertholon was highly influenced by Benjamin Franklin and procured lightning rods for the protection of southern France. Variant and shared edition with Croullebois in Paris.
