Lot description

Folio: [6]-viii pp.; 101 pl. (some minor spotting or browning, a few pl. cut a bit short).

Contemp. calf (rubbed, some sm. repairs), richly gilt spine with 7 raised bands (head & tail rep., joints starting to split). Good copy.

Rare Amsterdam edition of the famous extensive work on the castles and manor houses, principal monasteries and abbeys in the province of Brabant by Jacques Le Roy (1633-1719). Our copy contains as engr. ill.: vign. on first title ("Brabantia sacra et profana scenographice illustrata"), allegorical title with the coat of arms of Brabant by Abraham van Diepenbeeck, 1 folding map of Brabant by N. Visscher ("Tabula ducatus Brabantiae"), 5 folding or full-page city plans (Antwerp, Breda, Brussels, Ravestein & Helmont, Den Bosch), "Schema Metallorum", headpiece with the coat of arms of Spain, 3 folding or full-page building views (Antwerp cathedral, Borromeus church in Antwerp, tower of Mechelen cathedral on 2 pl.), 3 pl. showing funeral monuments, 11 folding pl. of castles, 7 large folding pl. of abbeys and 135 smaller pl. on 68 pp. showing castles and other buildings, each with the coats of arms of the owners.
