Half sheep with corners (sl. rubbed), marbled paper on covers, gilt flat spine, red edges.
First edition of this important work on childbirth by the French obstetrician Levret (1703-1780). Ill. with one fold. engr. pl. showing instruments. Levret was a contemporary of the famous English obstetrician Smellie, and along with Baoudelocque he helped advance the science of obstetrics in 18th-c. France. He improved the obstetric forceps, invented several other obstetric instruments and made fundamental observations on pelvic anomalies (Garrison & Morton).
