Later black shagreen, gilt flat spine, gilt edges (worn, some def., esp. spine).
First and only edition of a collection of 30 portraits of eminent members of the Order of St. Augustine, engraved by Cornelis Galle after drawings of Jacques Franquart, invariably linked to a biography of the person. The author Corneille De Corte (Brussels ca. 1590-1637 Waasmunster), highly valued by Emperor Ferdinand II, served as prior of the convents of his order in Ingolstadt, Vienna and Prague and as general vicar of Bavaria and Austria.
